New York, NY – The Hofstra softball team saw its five-game winning streak come to an end on Wednesday with a 4-1 defeat on the road to Fordham from Bahoshey Field. Hofstra now sits at 18-15, and Fordham improves to 14-17 on the season.
Hofstra and Fordham engaged in a pitcher's duel for the first four innings, allowing only a combined seven batters on base, before the Rams took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning after scoring on a groundout with a runner on third base. Fordham increased its lead in the sixth inning to four through a run scored on a fly out and a two-run single. Hofstra narrowed the difference to three runs when
Alanna Morse scored
Tyler Douglas with a SAC fly with two outs and the bases loaded, but it would be all the Pride could muster before the final out.
Gabby Sultan and
Dahlia Palacio each finished the game with a double, while hits also came off the bats of
Nicole Cancel,
Mackenzie Fitzgerald,
Victoria Frobosilo, and
Lily Yepez.
Jillian Locher received the loss after pitching 1.1 innings, while
Emma Falen get the start and went 4.0 innings with three strikeouts, and
Madison Steppe got the final out of the sixth inning.
Hofstra's road swing continues with a three-game series against Towson, beginning on Friday at 2 p.m.
