WBB: Hofstra To Face Nationally-Ranked Delaware on Thursday

1/26/2012 7:45:00 PM

Hempstead, NY – After opening Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play with a stellar 6-1 record, the Hofstra Women's Basketball team will face its toughest test of the 2011-12 campaign when it travels to nationally-ranked Delaware on Thursday.

Game time against the Blue Hens is scheduled for 7 p.m. from the Bob Carpenter Center.

Delaware is ranked No. 15 nationally in the Associated Press poll and No. 16 in the USA Today/ESPN Top 25 poll this week.

Hofstra (14-4, 6-1 CAA) split its two games last week, dropping an 81-63 decision to James Madison on Thursday before rebounding for a 72-66 victory over Northeastern on Sunday.

Junior forward Shante Evans continued her torrid third season as the All-American had game-highs of 21 points and 13 rebounds in the win over the Huskies on Sunday.  It was her 11th double-double of the season and her ninth in the Pride's last 10 games.

For the season, Evans is now averaging 18 points and 10.4 rebounds per game.  It will be quite a match-up on Thursday as each team features an All-American on their respective rosters and two of the top players in the CAA will do battle.  Leading the way for Delaware is Elena Delle Donne, who leads the Blue Hens in scoring and rebounding with averages of 27.9 points and 9.5 rebounds per contest.  Delle Donne is the only member of the Blue Hens to average double figures in points.  Her points per game average leads the nation as well.

Delaware as a team is 16-1 overall and 7-0 in conference action.  They have won six straight since suffering their only defeat, an 85-76 decision at Maryland, back on December 29.  Delaware earned a 60-49 win over Drexel in its last game on Sunday.
