MLAX: Hofstra Alums Card and Lincoln Selected in NLL Draft

Hempstead, NY - Hofstra University Men's Lacrosse alumni Jay Card, '11 and Jamie Lincoln '11 have been selected in the 2011 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft, the NLL announced Wednesday night.

The Canadian duo each went in the first 19 selections in the draft. Lincoln, a native of St. Catharines, Ontario,  was selected in the second round with the 14th pick overall by the Colorado Mammoth. Card, who hails from Caledon, Ontario, was taken in the third round with the 19th pick overall by the Minnesota Swarm.

Lincoln earned his second consecutive All-CAA second team accolade in 2011 following his transfer, after two seasons, from the University of Denver. The 2008 and 2010 USILA All-America honorable mention was tied for the team lead with 29 goals and added 11 assist for 40 points while starting all 16 games.  Lincoln posted multi-goal games in eight contests including a season-high of five against Harvard and Towson. He also scored four goals against Princeton and tallied three assists against St. John's and two versus Air Force. Lincoln picked up 21 ground balls on the season including five against Drexel.

Card earned his third consecutive USILA All-America honorable mention accolade as a senior last year. In 2011, he earned his fourth All-CAA award including his third first team honor. Card, who was also named to the 2011 USILA North-South Senior All-Star Game, led the Pride in scoring last year with 29 goals and 17 assists for 46 points while starting all 16 games.


Card, the 2009 CAA Player of the Year, recorded eight multi-goal games and dished out multi-assists in five games in 2011.  He concludes his career ranked second in goals (122), fifth in points (182) and 11th in assists (60) on Hofstra career charts. Card, who was also the 2008 CAA Rookie of the Year, recorded a point in 44 consecutive games to close out his career.


Hofstra was one of five schools with two or more student-athletes selected in the six round, 53-pick  NLL Entry Draft. Syracuse had four, Robert Morris had three and Hofstra, Canisius and Stony Brook each had two.
