Hempstead, N.Y. - Hofstra sophomore defender Shaun Foster (Southport, England) was one of 42 men's soccer players from around the country named to the 2011 Hermann Trophy Watch List, it was announced by the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC).
Foster was chosen to the exclusive list after earning a pair of conference awards last year while leading Hofstra to a third-place finish in the Colonial Athletic Association and an appearance in the championship game. He was named both the CAA Defensive Player of the Year and the CAA Rookie of the Year, making him the first player in CAA Men's Soccer history to win two of the league's major year-end awards in the same season.
In addition to his leadership role on the defensive end of the field, Foster also came up big on the offensive end in his rookie campaign last year, scoring the game-winning goal in the regular season finale at James Madison, which clinched a CAA Tournament bid for the Pride. He also scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over Georgia State and assisted on the game-winning goal in overtime of a 1-0 win over Drexel.
Foster earned second-team All-South Atlantic Region honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) last season, and was also an All-Tournament team selection at the Brown Soccer Classic.
The Hermann Trophy is presented by the Missouri Athletic Club to the top Division I men's soccer and women's soccer players at the conclusion of the season. To view a complete list of the 42 players chosen to the 2011 Hermann Trophy Watch List, go to the following link:
