Hempstead, N.Y. - Former Hofstra defender Erik Rengifo made his professional debut with F.C. New York on Monday in a 2-1 win over the Rochester Rhinos.

Rengifo played for three years for the Pride after transferring from Molloy College following his freshman year. He was a three-year starter on the defensive unit, and played at a center back position this fall, when he helped Hofstra reach the Colonial Athletic Association championship game after the Pride finished third in the 12-team CAA during the regular season.

During his scholastic days at Beach Channel High School, Rengifo played for the United States Under-18 team in the World Championships in Osaka, Japan. He has also played for the Brooklyn Knights of the Premier Development League (PDL) and has dual citizenship with the United States and Columbia.

F.C. New York is a member of the United Soccer Leagues (USL) in the Professional Division, the third tier of the United States soccer pyramid (behind Major League Soccer and the eight-team North American Soccer League). The team plays its home games at St. John's University at Belson Stadium.

F.C. New York has three upcoming home games in June, facing Charleston this Friday, Dayton on Friday, June 10, and Richmond on Sunday, June 12.
