4/8/2011 11:22:00 PM

Brookline, MA - Les Williams scattered six hits over nine innings and struck out seven as he outdueled Hofstra ace David D'Errico , 3-0, in the opening game of a three-game series Friday afternoon. D'Errico allowed six hits, three walks and two earned runs with six strikeouts in his eight innings of work.

Hofstra falls to 6-18 on the year, 5-8 in the CAA. Northeastern is 6-20, 2-8 in league play. D'Errico, who pitched his second complete game in as many starts, falls to 3-3 on the season, while Williams is 2-4.

The Huskies would score the only run they would need in the fourth when Aaron Barbosa led off with a bunt single and stole second. Matt Miller then singled up the middle to knock home Barbosa.

Northeastern added an insurance run in the sixth when Connor Lyons walked and came in on Barbosa's triple. The Huskies tacked on an unearned run in the seventh on a John Puttress RBI double that scored Pete Castoldi, who had reached on a two-out error.

The Pride had scoring opportunities in the fifth and seventh, leaving runners on first and third in the fifth and a runner on second in the seventh.

Kenny Jackson and Jared Hammer each had two hits for the Pride. Barbosa was the only Husky with two hits.

Game two of the series takes place Saturday at Noon. Rob Kumbatovic is slated to start for the Pride and will face Andrew Leenhouts.
