BB: Hofstra Drops 12-1 Decision To William & Mary

Williamsburg, VA - Logan Billbrough pitched seven shutout innings and the Tribe offense erupted for seven runs in the third inning in a 12-1 victory over the Pride Saturday at Plumeri Park. The win evens the series for the Tribe and sets up the rubber game Sunday afternoon.

William & Mary improves to 15-15 on the year, 8-6 in the CAA. Hofstra falls to 5-16, 5-6 in the CAA.

The Tribe broke a scoreless tie with a seven-run third inning, scoring two runs on five consecutive singles. A third run came in on a sacrifice fly, followed by an RBI single and a Joe Burg wild pitch that allowed the fifth run to score. Ryan Williams capped the scoring with a two-run home run, his third of the season.

William and Mary would add two runs in the fourth and three in the seventh to finish their scoring. Hofstra avoided the shutout with a run in the ninth without the benefit of a hit. Bryan Verbitsky walked and moved to second on a groundout. After advancing to third on a wild pitch, Verbitsky would score on a sacrifice fly by Bobby Gazzola .

Billbrough held the Pride to four hits in his seven innings and struck out 10 to improve to 3-1 on the year. Burg took the loss for the Pride and fell to 0-3. In 2 2/3 innings, he allowed eight hits and seven runs.

The two teams will conclude the series with a 1 p.m. game on Sunday.
