Boca Raton, FL - Florida Atlantic All-American candidate Andy Mee hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to snap a 4-4 tie and propel the Owls to a 12-4 victory Hofstra in the season opener for both teams Friday night at FAU Stadium.

Hofstra jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Danny Poma led off with a single and moved to second when Scott A'Hara walked. Dylan Nasiatka reached on a fielder's choice, moving Poma to third. Nasiatka then stole second. T.J. Thomas followed with a sacrifice fly to right that scored Poma and moved Nasiatka to third. A wild pitch plated Nasiatka to give the Pride a 2-0 advantage.

The Pride tacked on another run in the second as Bryan Verbitsky singled and moved to second on a balk. Following a popout, Poma singled to drive in Verbitsky. But the Pride let an opportunity for a big inning slip away as they loaded the bases before an inning-ending double play cut the inning short.

The Owls scored twice in the second with Nick Delguidice and Mike Albaladejo each driving in runs. Eddie Cassidy and Alex Hudak both singled to start the inning and Delguidice followed with a double to plate Cassidy. Following a strikeout, Albaladejo grounded out to short, scoring Hudak.

Hofstra stretched the lead back to two, 4-2, in the top of the third as Logan Davis laced a one out single and following a groundout, Verbitsky singled to drive home Davis.

FAU scored again in the third with Delguidice knocking in his second run of the game with a single. The Owls then tied the score in the fifth on a walk to Cassidy, a single by Hudak and another RBI single off the bat of Delguidice.

The Owls took the lead for good in the sixth off of Pride reliever Joe Burg , who retired the first two batters of the inning before issuing a walk to Raymond Church. Mee followed with a home run for a 6-4 FAU advantage. The Owls would then tack on a run in the seventh and five in the eighth. Delguidice capped off a 5-for-5, five RBI night with a two-run home run in the eighth.

Burg took the loss for the Pride, allowing two runs in 1 1/3 innings. Josh Gonzaga pitched three innings of scoreless relief to pick up the win. Hofstra starter David D'Errico went 4 2/3 innings and allowed eight hits and four earned runs. He also struck out four batters.

Poma, a junior college transfer from Cuesta College, went 4-for-5 with an RBI in his Hofstra debut. Davis and Verbitsky, both freshmen, also had two hits in their inaugural game. A'Hara, the Pride's top returning hitter from 2010, also had two hits.
