MBB: Hofstra Inks Two During Early Signing Period

Hempstead, NY--The Hofstra men's basketball program signed two players to national letters of intent during the early signing period, it was announced today by head coach Mo Cassara.

The two players are 6-1 guard Dallas Anglin (Montclair, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) and 6-7 forward Jimmy Hall (Brooklyn, NY/St. Anthony (N.J)).

"We are thrilled and excited to have Dallas and Jimmy begin their academic and athletic careers in the fall of 2012," Cassara said. "They both come from wonderful high school programs and are the types of true student-athletes we are looking for here at Hofstra University. Their dynamic abilities has our staff excited about the future."

Anglin is a 175-pound combo guard who earned a spot on the Newark Star-Ledger's first-team all-junior squad and the all-county first team.  He averaged 14.7 points and 2.6 assists in 2010-11, teaming with Essex County Player of the Year Sterling Gibbs to lead Seton Hall Prep to the North Jersey Non-Public A championship and the Essex County Tournament crown.

Anglin's father, Kyle, played for St. Bonaventure. As a prep player, Dallas Anglin has played well in clutch moments, showing a knack for pressure situations by scoring all of his 15 points in the second half to lead his high school to a 66-55 win over Newark Central in the semifinals of the county tournament en route to a title.

Hofstra also looked to fortify the frontcourt by signing Hall. Described by the Pride coaches as having good post moves and a developing outside shot, Hall has already established himself on a top-flight national prep team. The power forward was member of a St. Anthony squad that finished last season undefeated, won the New Jersey Tournament of Champions title and was named the unofficial USA Today national champion. Hall was also recruited by Temple, George Washington and Penn State.

Despite entering just his second season at the helm, Cassara has already reshaped the roster. Eight members of the current 12-man active roster have been brought to Hofstra by Cassara and his staff, including Stephen Nwaukoni, Shemiye McLendon, Dwan McMillan, Jordan Allen, Moussa Kone, Bryant Crowder and Jereme Good. Junior point guard Stevie Mejia (Hyde Park, Mass./Lawrence Academy) transferred into the program in August 2010 from the University of Rhode Island as one of Cassara's first moves.
