Philadelphia, PA - The duo of
Cruz Davis and
Preston Edmead continued to carry the Pride as Davis had 18 points and five assists, while Edmead added 11 points and a season-high eight assists to carry the Hofstra men's basketball team to a dominating 77-60 win in the final game of the Cathedral Classic at The Palestra. Hofstra finished the Cathedral Classic with a perfect 3-0 record.
The Pride placed five in double figures as they came back from a narrow two-point halftime deficit in rolling past the host Quakers.
The win, Hofstra's third straight and fifth in its last six games, improved the Pride's record to 5-3. Penn slipped to 5-3 with the loss.
German Plotnikov added 12 points, four rebounds, and three blocked shots in the game, while
Biggie Patterson and
Victory Onuetu each chipped in with 10 points. Onuetu added nine rebounds and two blocks as well.
Ethan Roberts had 16 points to lead the Quakers, who also got 11 points from Michael Zanoni.
Davis and Edmead were named to the Cathedral Classic All-Tournament Team.
Hofstra returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Columbia for a 7 p.m. contest.
NOTES
- Today marked the third all-time meeting between Hofstra and Penn with the Pride now leading the series, 2-1. It was the first meeting since a 67-62 Hofstra win on December 27, 1998, in the ECAC Holiday Festival at Madison Square Garden.
- Hofstra shot 60% (15-25) from the field in the second half.
- Davis has scored in double figures in all eight games this season.
- Edmead has five or more assists in all eight games this season.
