Hempstead, NY - Hofstra University senior forward Genna Kovar has been named the GoHofstra.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending October 2. It is Kovar's second GoHofstra.com Student-Athlete of the Week honor this season.

Kovar, a native of Hampton Bays, New York, led the Pride to two Colonial Athletic Association victories to improve to 10-5 overall and 3-1 in conference action. Hofstra's leading scorer this season with 18 goals and 14 assists for 50 points in 15 games, Kovar tallied four goals and six assists in the two contests. In the process, she broke several school records and inched closer to several more.

In the 7-0 victory over VCU last Friday, Kovar recorded three goals, tied her career-best with three assists, and set a career-high with nine points. Her three assists against the Rams equaled her personal best set earlier this season at Colgate and in 2008 against William and Mary. Kovar's assist on the game's opening goal by Amy-Lee Levey was the 25th of her career, breaking Jamie Knoblich's career mark of 24 set from 1994 through 1997.

On Sunday, in the Pride's 4-1 win over James Madison, Kovar tallied a goal and three assists against the Dukes. Her first point of the day - an assist on Levey's game-opening goal - broke the season points record of 45, set by Charlia Warner in 2006. Kovar's third assist of the day - on Arielle Williams' second half goal - broke the single season assist mark of 13, held by both Lauren Garille and Liz Sturm in 1998.

Kovar, with 18 goals on the season, is three goals away from breaking Janet Walsh's 1998 mark of 20 for most goals in a single season.  Kovar boosted her career totals to 47 goals and 30 assists for 124 points, which places her four points from breaking Walsh's career points total of 127, and nine goals from breaking Walsh's school record of 55 career goals.

Kovar and the Pride will be back in action on Sunday, October 9 when they host Delaware at noon.
