Hempstead, NY - 11 teams that advanced to postseason play in 2009-10, including four squads that appeared in the NCAA Tournament, highlight the 2010-11 schedule released today by Head Women's Basketball Coach Krista Kilburn-Steveskey.

Virginia, Hartford, Texas and James Madison are the four teams on the schedule that advanced to the NCAA Tournament a season ago, while seven other schools on the schedule played in either the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) or the Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI).

The schedule gets underway in a big way on Thursday, November 12 when Virginia of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) visits the Mack Sports Complex to kick off the 2010-11 campaign.  The Cavaliers will be the fourth current member of the ACC to visit Hempstead in women's basketball and the first since Georgia Tech in 2000-01.  Virginia compiled a 21-10 record last season en route to an NCAA Tournament appearance.

November continues with a home contest against Saint Peter's on November 15 before the Pride closes the month with road games at Stony Brook (November 18) and Providence (November 22).  The Friars (19-15 in 2009-10) are one of five opponents on the schedule that advanced to the WNIT last season, joining Old Dominion, Delaware, Drexel and Virginia Commonwealth.

Hofstra will face Fairfield on December 5 before going on the road for three straight games.  Fairfield won 20 games last season and played in the inaugural WBI.

Following the game against the Stags, Hofstra will head to Niagara (December 9), Seton Hall (December 18) and Albany (December 20).  The final home non-conference game will see the Pride match-up against mid-major power Hartford on December 22.  The Hawks, coached by Jen Rizzotti, went 27-5 a year ago and played in the NCAA Tournament.  The game will see Hartford alum and former Hawk assistant coach Tanika Price face her old squad for the first time since joining the Hofstra staff this past offseason.

The non-conference portion of the schedule closes with a trip to San Diego  in late December for the 2010 Maggie Dixon Surf 'N Slam Classic.  Hofstra will open play at the tournament against the host Toreros on December 28 before facing either Texas (22-11 in 2009-10; NCAA Tournament appearance) or Cincinnati on December 30.

The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) portion of the schedule begins on January 2 when Hofstra travels to Delaware.  The Blue Hens, led by Elena Delle Donne, appeared in the WNIT last season and won 21 games.  Four CAA schools went to the WNIT a season ago and Hofstra will meet those schools throughout the conference slate.  A total of six meetings will occur against CAA schools that went to the WNIT last season including Delaware (January 2 and 30), Drexel (January 23 and February 10), Virginia Commonwealth (February 13) and Old Dominion (February 20).  The Pride's lone meeting with NCAA qualifier James Madison is at home on February 27 (last regular season home game) and the Hofstra will play WBI qualifier Towson on January 6 and January 20.

The CAA Championship moves to a neutral site this season as The Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Maryland will host the tournament on March 10-13.

All game dates and times are subject to change.
