9/19/2010 8:54:00 PM

Bronx, N.Y. - Tim Richardson scored on a third-effort goal in the 12th minute and Julian Nagel added a goal in the 22nd minute as Fordham defeated Hofstra 3-1 on Sunday afternoon.

With the loss, the Pride concludes its non-conference schedule with a 2-3-2 record, while Fordham levels its record at 3-3 with the win.

Richardson broke the scoreless tie early on after his first two attempts were saved by junior goalkeeper Greg Cumpstone (Killingworth, Conn.). Richardson got to the rebound on the third try and scored at the 11:05 mark.

Just under 10 minutes later, the Rams doubled their lead as Julian Nagel scored his first goal of the season off an assist from John Niyonsaba.

Fordham goalkeeper Ryan Meara saved a header from Hofstra sophomore forward Mike Annarumma (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) in the seventh minute, and also had a save on a shot from senior forward Kevin Mira (Daly City, Calif.) in the 39th minute to keep Hofstra off the scoreboard in the first half.

Sophomore goalkeeper Adam Janowski (Coram, N.Y.) came off the bench in the second half for his collegiate debut in relief of Cumpstone and had three saves. Freshman midfielder Jon Watkin (Doncaster, England) and Chris Griebsch (Dessau-Rosslau, Germany) each had second-half scoring chances, and senior Joseph Amendolare (Greenlawn, N.Y.) had a header off a corner kick, but Meara came up with saves each time.

The teams then exchanged goals in the 90th minute as the Pride got on the board with 48 seconds left on the Griebsch's second goal of the year, off a feed from freshman midfielder Lukas Ahman (Soderberg, Sweden). to cut the lead to 2-1. Just 16 seconds later, though, Fordham got the goal back as the Pride tried to push forward for an equalizer, as Doug Hanly scored off a feed from Michael Caputo to put the game away.

Meara finished with five saves for Fordham, which had an 18-7 edge in total shots, while Hofstra held a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.

Hofstra will next be in action on Saturday, when it opens Colonial Athletic Association play on the road at defending league champion UNC Wilmington. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
