Hofstra Picks Up Big Road Win At Drexel

Philadelphia, PA - Owen Barnett's late first-half goal was the difference as Hofstra scored a 1-0 CAA victory over Drexel Saturday afternoon at Vidas Field. Gino Cervoni made two second-half saves to notch his third shutout.

Hofstra improved to 6-4 overall and 3-1 in the CAA with the victory, its second in a row. Drexel slips to 4-3-3 overall and 2-2-0 in league action. The win also moved the Pride back into first place in the CAA North Division.

Barnett scored his first goal since 2022 at 30:22 with Daniel Burko and Samuel Francou getting the assists. Francou collected a loose ball at the top of the box and sent a pass to Burko, who headed it to a charging Barnett. The senior midfielder converged with Drexel keeper Raphael Bartell and was able to get a shot past him for the lead.

The Hofstra defense made the goal stand as the Pride limited the Dragons to no shots in the first half and seven in the second. However, only two were on target. The first came more than midway through the second half off a free kick that Cervoni knocked away. The second came with three minutes remaining with the senior keeper diving to knock away a blast from Drexel's Julian Pittaoulis.

Hofstra will be off until next Saturday, October 4, when it hosts Northeastern at 6 p.m. on Alumni Night at Captains Field.
