Hofstra Tripped Up By Monmouth

Hempstead, NY - Hofstra outshot Monmouth, 19-8, but the Hawks lone shot on goal resulted in a score in a 1-0 CAA victory over the Pride Saturday night at Captains Field. The loss was Hofstra's first in conference play following a 2-0 start.

The Pride slipped to 4-4-0 overall and 2-1 in league play with the loss, while Monmouth improved to 4-3-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the CAA with the win.

The teams battled for 83 minutes before Raul Garcia's shot from the left side of the box deflected off a Hofstra defender and past a diving Gino Cervoni for the only tally of the game. Marcin Kluz was credited with the assist on Garcia's first goal of the season.

Hofstra had its share of chances, with five shots on goal, but could not finish. Monmouth keeper Herman Johnsen had four saves with the Hawks also notching a team save on a ball cleared off the line by a defender. 

The Pride returns to action Tuesday night at 7 p.m. when they host Columbia at Captains Field. 

Notes:
-Hofstra is 7-2-1 all-time versus Monmouth.
-The Pride suffered its second consecutive loss.
-Laurie Goddard had six of the Pride's 19 shots. 
-The shutout loss was Hofstra's second of the season, both by 1-0 scores.
