Hempstead, NY - Hofstra
University men's lacrosse player Christian Scuderi was selected in the third
round of the 2010 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft at Yale University's Lanman
Center Sunday night, the MLL announced.
Scuderi, a defenseman from West Islip, New York, was picked with the sixth pick
of the third round-18th overall- by the Long Island Lizards. The three-time
All-American, including twice at New York Institute of Technology before coming
to Hofstra in the Fall of 2008, started all 14 games for the 9-5 Pride, who
received their third consecutive NCAA Championship bid in 2010. The 6'4, 210-lb
West Islip High School graduate led Hofstra with 15 forced turnovers and led
the Pride defense with 38 ground balls this past season.
A United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division I All-America
Honorable Mention for the Pride in 2009 after earning Division II All-America
second team honors at New York Tech in both 2007 and 2008, Scuderi started 14
games for Hofstra in 2009 and tallied 33 ground balls on the way to being named
to the All-CAA first team.
Scuderi becomes the
15th player in Hofstra history to be selected in the MLL Draft. His selection
in the MLL Draft marks the sixth consecutive year and the eighth time in 10 years
that the Pride has had at least one student-athlete selected in the MLL
Collegiate Draft. In 2006, Hofstra had a single-draft high of five players chosen
in the MLL Draft.
The MLL is comprised of six teams across the United
States and Canada. The Boston Cannons, Long Island Lizards, and Chesapeake
(formerly Baltimore, Washington) Bayhawks have been members of the League since
its inception in 2001. The Chicago Machine and Denver Outlaws began play in
2006 as part of the League's western expansion. The Toronto Nationals joined
the MLL in 2009 as the League's first international team.
