Hempstead, NY - Heading
into their 2010 home opener against 19th-ranked Brown University this Saturday,
March 6 at James M. Shuart Stadium, the Hofstra Pride is ranked 11th in the
United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division I Coaches Poll, and
12th in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse Media Poll this week.
Hofstra (0-1), coming off a 17-14 loss at current #7 Princeton at Class of 1952
Stadium last Saturday, did not change its placement in the USILA poll this
week. That poll is headed by defending national champions, Syracuse (2-0), and
followed by Virginia (3-0), Notre Dame (2-0), North Carolina (4-0) and Johns
Hopkins (3-0) in the top five. Maryland (2-0), Princeton (1-0), Cornell (1-0),
Duke (2-1), and Loyola (2-0) round out the top 10.
A pair of Colonial Athletic Association teams head up the second 10 as Hofstra
(0-1) is 11 followed by new CAA member Massachusetts (2-0), Bucknell (2-1),
Georgetown (0-1), and Harvard (1-0). Another CAA-member, Delaware (3-1), is
16th followed by Stony Brook (1-1), UMBC (1-1), Brown (0-0) and Lafayette
(2-0).
In the Nike/Inside
Lacrosse poll, Syracuse and Virginia, like the coaches poll, are the top two
teams. But North Carolina gets the nod for third over Notre Dame while Johns
Hopkins is fifth. Princeton is sixth with Maryland seventh while eight through
10 are the same with Cornell, Duke and Loyola filling the slots.
Harvard is 11th
followed by Hofstra, Bucknell, Georgetown and Brown. UMass and Delaware leadoff
the final five followed by Navy (2-2), UMBC and Stony Brook. The Pride slipped
one spot to 12th in this week's media poll.
