MSOC: Grahn Named GoHofstra.Com Student-Athlete Of Week

11/18/2010 4:18:00 PM

Hempstead, NY - Senior forward Johannes Grahn (Tibro, Sweden) has been named the GoHofstra.com Student-Athlete of the Week for his performance in the CAA Tournament, it was announced today.

Grahn provided one of the most dramatic moments in CAA Tournament history when he scored the winning goal with five seconds left in regulation in the Pride's 2-1 win over VCU on Friday, Nov. 12. Grahn took a pass near the midfield stripe, and, even though he was the only Hofstra player on the offensive side of midfield, managed to dribble past five VCU defenders before being taken down in the box for a penalty kick.

Grahn took the ensuing penalty kick, and buried the shot into the side netting inside the left post to give Hofstra the 2-1 win and send it through to the championship game for the fourth time in the last seven years. The goal was the 22nd of his career in a Hofstra uniform as well.

Hofstra ended its season at 8-7-5, including a seven-game unbeaten streak from Oct. 20 through Nov. 12 that took it from 11th place to third place and into the CAA finals. Grahn was named to the CAA All-Tournament team for his performance.
