Senior Riti Dhillon placed 55th to lead the Hofstra women cross country team at the 2010 Colonial Athletic
Association Cross Country Championships at the University of North Carolina at
Wilmington Saturday.
Dhillon placed 55th (51 pts.) and recorded her best time
ever at the CAA Championships with a 6K time of 23:31, just two seconds off her
personal best at the 2008 Penn State Nationals. Freshman Kristin Mathis was
69th (60 pts.) in 23:55 with junior Meghan McCloskey recording her best CAA
time, placing 71st (62 pts.) in 23:58. Sophomore Cara Mattson posted her best
CAA time and finished 75th (63 pts.) in 24:18 while freshman Brittney Towner
placed 83rd (66 pts.) in 24:43 to round out the scoring members of the Pride.
The five remaining runners on the Pride ran in a pack with junior Kelly Lutz
finishing 90th (69 pts.) in 25:39; freshman Elizabeth Jerome placed 91st in 25:43;
freshman Teresa Governale was 92nd in 25:54; sophomore Brittany Potter was 93rd
in 25:56; and sophomore Kirstin Kaija was 95th in 26:51.
The Pride finished
10th in the 10-team field with 302 points. James Madison snapped William and
Mary's seven-year CAA Championship winning streak and captured the title for
the first time since 2002 with 28 points. The Dukes placed all five of their
scoring runners in the top 12, led by individual champion senior Alison Parris
(20:23). JMU sophomore Stacey Nobles placed second in 20:49 while classmate
Katie Harmon was fifth in 21:08. The Tribe of William and Mary placed second
with 46 points with George Mason (102) third, Northeastern (114) fourth and
Towson (122) fifth. The second half of the standings were: UNC-Wilmington (141)
in sixth; Delaware (182) in seventh; Georgia State (183) in eighth; VCU (273)
in ninth; and the Pride.
Hofstra will next compete at the NCAA Division I Northeast Regionals at
Hammonassett State Park in Madison, Connecticut on Saturday, November 13th.
