MSOC: Northeastern Trips Up Hofstra

10/13/2010 11:08:00 PM

Brookline, Mass. - Laurence Braude scored a pair of first half goals and added an assist as the Northeastern Men's Soccer team came away with a 4-0 win over Hofstra on Wednesday evening at Parsons Field.

The loss drops Hofstra's record to 3-6-3 on the season, including 1-3-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association. Northeastern, which also received two goals and an assist from Nick Lueders, moves to 4-5-2 overall and 2-1-2 in the CAA with the win.

The Huskies got off to a fast start as Braude scored off a feed from Leuders just 5:02 into the game to put Northeastern ahead 1-0. Hofstra started freshman goalie Roberto Pellegrini (Monte Porzio Catone, Italy), who made his collegiate debut, and the Huskies were able to get the quick lead on him.

Braude scored his second goal off a rebound in front of the net, when Pellegrini made the first save on a shot from Mike Kennedy. However, Nikko Lara got to the loose ball for Northeastern and slotted a pass to Braude, who knocked home his second goal of the game at the 19:38 mark.

Hofstra put some offensive pressure on throughout the first half, tallying eight shots, but Northeastern goalkeeper Oliver Blum was able to save both shots which were on target, from sophomore Stephan Barea (Levittown, N.Y.) and freshman Chris Griebsch (Dessau-Rosslau, Germany). Blum then made his third save early in the second half on junior forward Brett Carrington (St. George, Barbados).

Northeastern, though, thwarted any Hofstra comeback hopes when Braude got past Pellegrini and left the ball for Lueders in front of the net at the 58:22 mark, putting the Huskies ahead 3-0 and giving them control of the game. Lueders tacked on a fourth goal for the Huskies with 4:11 left in the game to close out the scoring.

Blum finished with four saves to get the shutout for Northeastern, which had a 13-10 edge in shots. Pellegrini finished with two saves for Hofstra in his debut.

The Pride started one of its youngest line-ups of the season with Pellegrini in net, as Hofstra had five freshmen and four sophomores in its starting 11. At one point in the second half, the Pride had seven freshmen on the field at one time.

Hofstra will next be in action when it returns home to face Delaware on Saturday for a 7 p.m. contest.
