Hempstead, NY - Tegan Brown scored a goal in each half, accounting for both Albany scores as Hofstra fell to the Great Danes, 2-0, Saturday afternoon at Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium.
The Pride fell to 2-1 despite posting an edge in total shots and shots on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Heyde (Somers, NY) logged six saves for the Pride but Albany still improved to 3-0. The Great Danes have not allowed a goal this season.
Brown opened the scoring 17:39 into the game, sending a blistering attempt from the top of the shooting circle. The laser beat Heyde high, landing against the twine for her fist goal as Albany took the one-goal edge into halftime.
Albany netted an insurance goal at the 43:43 mark when Brown converted a penalty corner that Nicole Savage initiated. Jess Lindsey stopped the ball for Brown, who completed her mulit-goal game with a hard shot from the middle of the shooting circle.
Christine Hoffman made three saves in the first half before giving way to Kristi Troch at the midway point. Troch made three saves, including a breakaway attempt, to prevent the Pride's comeback attempt.
Hofstra held a 16-12 edge in shots and a 9-6 advantage in shots on goal. The Pride had multiple chances to break Albany's scoreless streak. Fresh off her two-goal game, Darrah Rachman (Reading, PA) closed in on Hoffman for a point-blank chance that was pushed aside with a pad save 23:05 into the first half.
Rachman, who scored both goals against Bryant coming off the bench, again provided a spark off the bench. The sophomore's scoring chance came just 28 seconds after she checked into the game. Rachman finished with two shots on goal.
Amy Lee-Levey (Harare, Zimbabwe) also tested the Great Danes goalkeepers. The junior launched the first three Hofstra shots, leading an aggressive Pride offense. Levey, who entered with the most Hofstra shots this season, was credited with a game-high six total shots.
The Pride's offense received a boost when sophomore Genna Kovar (Hampton Bays, NY) returned to the starting lineup after missing the first two games with an injury. The speedy midfielder tested Troch with 18:30 left, sprinting into the shooting circle on a breakaway.
Troch raced far out of the net to make a sliding save. Kovar recovered the rebound and moved to the right around the sprawling goalie before shooting at an empty net. But Kovar's attempt went wide and Albany extended its defensive scoreless streak to 210 minutes.
Hofstra will be back in action Sunday when it hosts Richmond. Game time is set for 1 p.m. Hofstra fans who cannot make it out to the game can follow the action by accessing the live statistics and audio broadcast through GoHofstra.com.
