Richard Martinez is in his fourth season as a starting defender on the Hofstra Men's Soccer team. As a freshman, he led the Pride to a CAA championship and an appearance in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, converting the winning penalty kick in the CAA title game against George Mason.

A year ago, Martinez was called up to national team duty for Puerto Rico, appearing in five World Cup qualifiers. This past summer, he earned All-Conference honors while playing with the Long Island Rough Riders of the Premier Development League, where he was teammates with Hofstra Men's Soccer alumni Michael Todd and Gary Flood, who were seniors on the Pride's 2006 title team.
