South Huntington, NY - Senior midfielder Rory McCrea (Sherburn-In-Elmet, England) had a second-half goal to help the Ocean City Barons defeat the Long Island Rough Riders 2-0 in a Premier Development League (PDL) playoff game on Wednesday evening at St. Anthony's High School.

The game featured six Hofstra players, three from each team, including four current members of the Pride. Current senior Richard Martinez (Highland, NY), and alumni Gary Flood ('07) and Michael Todd ('07) all started for the Rough Riders, while current seniors McCrea, Jamal Neptune (East Windsor, NJ) and Bill Pinto (Audobon, NJ) all played for the Barons. The six players were all teammates on the 2006 Hofstra team which won the Colonial Athletic Association title.

In addition, former midfielder Chris Cox ('08) was inactive for the Rough Riders, while incoming freshman Giancarlo Granese was inactive for the Barons.

McCrea's goal came midway though the second half on a shot from the top of 18-yard box that tucked into the right side of the net, putting the Barons ahead 2-0. Ten minutes earlier, McCrea nearly scored on a feed from Neptune, who came all the way forward from his left back position and found McCrea open in the middle of the penalty area, but McCrea's shot missed wide left.

With the win, the Barons move on to face Ottawa on Saturday in the second round of the PDL playoffs. Ottawa finished undefeated during the regular season.

Martinez, McCrea, Neptune and Pinto will be back with Hofstra this fall, as the Pride opens its 2009 season at Stony Brook on September 1.
