Hempstead, NY - Senior defender Richard Martinez (Highland, NY) was honored by Top Drawer Soccer on their Team of the Season, earning honorable mention honors.

Martinez was one of three Colonial Athletic Association players honored by Top Drawer, which chose its Team of the Season members from all of Division I. William & Mary's Andrew Hoxie was a first-team selection, while UNC Wilmington's Indy Smith joined Martinez with honorable mention honors.

Martinez was the CAA Defensive Player of the Year for the Pride, after helping Hofstra earn shutouts in six of its 11 conference games. He was a two-time first-team All-CAA selection, and was an all-region selection by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) last year (this season's NSCAA honors are pending).

As a freshman, Martinez helped Hofstra to a CAA championship and an appearance in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. After coming off the bench in his college debut, Martinez went on to start every game over the next four seasons with the Pride. He earned All-Rookie team honors from the CAA in 2006, then earned second-team honors in 2007, before closing out his career with two straight first-team selections.

Martinez has also played for the Puerto Rico national team, earning six international caps last year during World Cup qualifying. Over the summer, he earned all-conference honors while playing for the Long Island Rough Riders in the Premier Development League.
