KOVAR AND LEVEY EARN ALL-MIDEAST REGION HONORS

11/19/2009 6:00:00 PM

Hempstead, NY- Sophomore Genna Kovar was named to the first-team All-Mideast Region squad and junior Amy-Lee Levey earned second-team honors, as selected by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Thursday.

Kovar was one of just 80 Division I players nationally selected to a regional first-team. The award comes two weeks after Kovar (Hampton Bays, NY) earned a spot on the All-Colonial Athletic Association's first-team after she scored a team-high 15 goals. The midfielder compiled nine multi-point games in setting a career high in goals and points (35). She also tied a career-high with five assists.

With two more years of eligibility, Kovar has the opportunity to become the first Hofstra player to be named to multiple All-Mideast Region teams since Charlia Warner made it three straight years from 2006-08. The all-region first-team selection also makes Kovar an All-America candidate. That would make her the first Pride player to earn that distinction since Warner in 2006.

Levey set a career-high with eight goals in her junior year. The Harare, Zimbabwe, native also became Hofstra's penalty stroke specialist, finishing a perfect 4-4 in those one-on-one situations to help the Pride qualify for the CAA Championship for the sixth consecutive season. In addition to her second-team All-Mideast Region award, Levey was also named to the All-CAA second-team.

The NFHCA will announce the Division I All-America team Monday.
