Junior defender Richard Martinez (Highland, NY - pictured) was named first-team All-Colonial Athletic Association in a vote of the league's coaches, it was announced tonight at the CAA Men's Soccer Awards Banquet.
Also honored for the Pride were junior midfielder Rob Youhill (Harrogate, England), who was named to the second team for the second straight season, and freshman forward Brett Carrington (St. George, Barbados), who was named to the third team. Carrington was also chosen to the 2008 CAA All-Rookie team.
Martinez, who earned second-team All-CAA honors last year, started every game for the Pride this season at center back, tallying a goal and an assist. He also began this calendar year by playing in five games with the Puerto Rico National Team, including three World Cup qualifying matches.
Youhill tied for team-high honors with four assists on his way to earning All-CAA honors. He has 15 career assists through his first three seasons at Hofstra and could challenge the school record for career assists with a big year next fall. Youhill also represented England at the 2007 World University Games in Turkey.
Carrington had a strong rookie season for the Pride, leading the team with seven goals and 16 points. He was named to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week on Sept. 9 after tallying two goals and an assist in a 4-1 win over 13th-ranked Virginia Tech. Like Martinez, Carrington also picked up international experience in World Cup Qualifying matches for Barbados after making the national team at age 17.
Devan Carroll (Player of the Year), Indy Smith (Defensive Player of the Year) and Aidan Heaney (Coach of the Year) earned CAA honors from UNC Wilmington, which won the regular season title. Steffen Rabben of Old Dominion earned the Rookie of the Year Award.
