Hofstra University freshman midfielder Corrine Gandolfi (East Northport, NY/Northport) was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Week today, it was announced by the conference office. The award is Gandolfi's second this season as she previously earned the conference's rookie honor on March 13.
Gandolfi had a huge week for the Pride as she totaled a team-high five goals, while adding four caused turnovers and three ground balls in Hofstra's two games last week. In Hofstra's 14-11 victory over Towson, Gandolfi led the way with four goals and tied for the team-high with two caused turnovers and added a ground ball. The heralded freshman scored the eventual game-winner during a 4-1 run to open the second half, a run in which Gandolfi totaled three of her four goals.
For the season, Gandolfi now has 11 goals and one assist, whole also adding 14 caused turnovers, 12 ground balls and five draw controls.
The Pride is 8-5 overall this season and a near-perfect 5-1 in CAA play. Hofstra, winners of six of its last seven games, will also face CAA opponent James Madison on Friday (April 27) and the nation's number-one ranked team Northwestern on Sunday (April 29). The contest against James Madison has major CAA Championship implications as the winner of that contest will host the tournament on May 4 (semifinals) and 6 (championship game).
Hofstra returns to action tomorrow when they host Long Island rival Stony Brook at 4 p.m.
