Hofstra senior forward Michael Todd (Kansas City Wizards - right) and senior defender Gary Flood (New England Revolution - left) were chosen in the Major League Soccer Supplemental Draft on Thursday.
Todd (Cleveland, England) became the first Division I All-American in Hofstra Men's Soccer history when he earned second-team honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) in December. Todd joins Ed Gaffney, a 1969 honorable mention All-America at the NCAA Small College Division, as the only two players in Hofstra Men's Soccer history to earn All-America honors. Todd, who carries a 3.40 grade point average, was also named an ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Second-Team Academic All-American in November.
A three-time All-CAA and three-time NSCAA All-Region selection, Todd finished his career as one of only two players in Hofstra history to record 100 career points. He finished third on the all-time goals scored list with 40 and added 21 assists for 101 points.
Flood (Hauppauge, NY) was a first-team All-CAA selection after playing every minute of every game this season while serving as the Pride's defensive captain. He started at center back for all four seasons, and was named the National Player of the Week by Soccer Times for the week ending Oct. 22, when he helped the Pride hold its opponents to only one shot on goal in a two-game span.
Todd and Flood wrapped up their storied careers this fall by leading the Pride to its third straight Colonial Athletic Association championship and its third straight NCAA Division I Tournament appearance. Todd was named the CAA Player of the Year for his performance during the regular season, then earned CAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player honors for his performance in the postseason. He also won the Most Outstanding Player in the 2004 CAA Tournament, when he scored the game-winning goal in the championship game against Old Dominion to bring Hofstra to the NCAA Division I Tournament for the first time. Flood, meanwhile, earned the Most Outstanding Player in the 2005 CAA Tournament.
Hofstra finished the 2006 season with a 12-6-3 record, giving Todd, Flood and the senior class 45 wins in their four years. That total made the Hofstra Soccer Class of 2006 the winningest class in school history, breaking the previous mark of 43. Hofstra's three straight CAA titles also make it one of only three men's soccer teams in the country with three straight conference championships, joining Western Illinois and New Mexico.
