Senior forward Michael Todd (Cleveland, England/Huntcliff - pictured) was named the CAA Co-Player of the Week on Monday after helping the Pride to a pair of conference wins over the weekend.
In addition to his CAA honor, Todd was also named the Big Apple Soccer Player of the Week (representing Metropolitan New York area teams in all three divisions), and earned a spot on the 11-member National Team of the Week from College Soccer News.
Todd came up big on Sunday in the Pride's 2-1 win over 12th-ranked Old Dominion at Hofstra Soccer Stadium, scoring both of Hofstra's goals. The game-winner came with just 7:17 left in the game, when he darted in front of the Old Dominion goalkeeper and deflected a direct kick from teammate Chris Cox (Nottingham, England) into the net from two yards out. He also scored the first goal for Hofstra at the 53:18 mark when he got in behind the Monarch defense and chipped a shot over the head of the keeper and into the vacated net.
On Friday, Todd acted in the role of playmaker as he assisted on Hofstra first two goals in a 3-0 win over William & Mary. He set up the first goal just 5:09 into the game, when he sent freshman midfielder Rob Youhill (Harrogate, England) in alone on the William & Mary goalie. He then assisted on the Pride's second goal at the 28:16 mark, when he set up Cox with a perfect through ball up the middle of the field.
Todd now leads the Pride in goals (seven) and points (17), while he is tied for the team lead in assists (three). He now has 34 goals in his career at Hofstra, ranking him third on the school's all-time list, eight behind Zak Wright for second place. He has scored at least seven goals in all four seasons, including seven as a freshman, eight as a sophomore, and 12 last year as a junior.
Hofstra's two wins this week improved its record to 5-3-2 overall and 2-1-1 in the CAA, getting the Pride back into the thick of the conference race. The win over Old Dominion also improved Hofstra's record to 9-2-1 in its last 12 games against nationally ranked teams, dating back to 2004. Three of those wins have come against Old Dominion, including each of the last two CAA championship games. In fact, Todd's goal in 2004 was the difference as the Pride won its first CAA title with a 1-0 win over the Monarchs.
Hofstra will next be in action when it travels to Georgia State on Friday for a 7 p.m. contest.
