The Hofstra University Field Hockey Team finished 21st in the final Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) of the 2005 season as announced by the NCAA Division I Field Hockey Committee. This year's ranking is the highest ranking in Hofstra Field Hockey history.
The RPI uses a variety of primary and secondary factors ranging from strength of schedule to late-season performance in order to calculate overall team rankings. The Pride finished the 2005 season ranked third in the CAA with a conference record of 5-3 and an overall record of 13-7 with six out of it's seven loses coming from nationally ranked opponents. Hofstra played one of its toughest games of the year against #3 Old Dominion, who made it all the way to the NCAA final four.
In conference statistics, the Pride finished in the top four in all categories including second in the conference in goals against average (1.42) and tied for first in goals allowed (1.45).
Additionally, the 2005 Hofstra Field Hockey Team featured an All-American in Doni-Melissa Jantzen (Shoreham, NY/Shoreham-Wading River), four Mideast All-Region players, and three All-CAA players.
The Pride look forward to next season as it graduates only three seniors and returns nine starters.
