SKRETKOWICZ NAMED CAA WRESTLER OF THE WEEK

Hofstra University senior Chris Skretkowicz (Hamburg, NJ/Wallkill Valley Regional) has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Wrestler of the Week, for all competition from November 23 through December 6.

 

Skretkowicz recorded a 6-0 record during the past two weeks to win the award. On Sunday November 28th, he upset the top ranked wrestler in the nation, Jon Trenge of Lehigh, 5-2, leading Hofstra to an upset of the second-ranked Mountain Hawks. This past weekend, Skretkowicz posted a 5-0 to win the 197-pound weight class at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. In the process, he defeated the third (J.D. Bergman from Ohio State), fourth (Ryan Bader from Arizona State), and 24th (K.C Walsh from Boise State) ranked wrestlers in Division I, and the top-ranked wrestler (Tim Boldt from Augustana) in Division II.

 

Skretkowicz is now 11-1 on the season and is ranked second in today's NWCA/InterMat Top 20 Individual Rankings.

 

In other CAA wrestling news, Billy Haydt of Drexel University and Hunter Davenport of Old Dominion University were named the CAA Rookies of the Week, Haydt, a freshman from Bath, PA (Northampton), subbed in at both 157 and 165 pounds for Drexel, going 2-0 at the Northeast Duals. Haydt defeated Mike Allen of Ohio 7-3 at 157 and Wayne Hash-Barberis of American 4-3 at 165.

 

Davenport, a freshman 149 from Chesapeake, VA (Great Bridge), won four of five bouts for ODU to place runner-up at the Carolina Open, losing only to 12th ranked Darren McKnight of Michigan State.
