Hofstra Men’s Lacrosse Establishes Excellence Fund to Support Future of Program

9/1/2026 10:00:00 AM

Hempstead, NY – Hofstra University today announced the creation of the Hofstra Men's Lacrosse Excellence Fund, a new initiative designed to enhance Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities and scholarship support for Pride men's lacrosse student-athletes.

The fund is spearheaded by a group of distinguished Hofstra lacrosse alumni who have made an immediate commitment to the program's future, including James C. Metzger '83, Anthony Perettine '85, Joe Rinaldi '81, and Colonel E. David Woycik '77.

Driven by a shared belief in the program's potential, the Excellence Fund will provide critical resources to help Hofstra men's lacrosse navigate the evolving landscape of collegiate athletics, where alumni-backed initiatives have become an important factor in attracting and retaining top talent.

"This is about positioning Hofstra men's lacrosse for what comes next," said Hofstra Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Seth Tierney. "Our alumni care deeply about this program and its legacy. Their leadership and belief in what we're building will directly impact our ability to support our student-athletes and create new opportunities moving forward."

The Hofstra Men's Lacrosse Excellence Fund reflects a growing model across college athletics, bringing together alumni and supporters to invest directly in student-athlete opportunities and program resources.

"The impetus for my donation to Hofstra Lacrosse NIL stems from the outstanding leadership and passion Joseph Rinaldi has demonstrated in building this program. In addition to his financial support, Joe has created a model through The Athlete Amplifier that benefits every player by providing compensation, financial guidance, and long-term educational value. I encourage fellow Hofstra alumni, fans, and supporters to join in strengthening the program and supporting each student-athlete." - James C. Metzger '83

"We believe strongly in the direction of Hofstra men's lacrosse and in the importance of providing opportunities for student-athletes in today's environment. I'm proud to help support an initiative that will benefit the program both now and into the future." - Anthony Perettine '85

"I am excited to be part of this distinguished group of Hofstra lacrosse alumni who care deeply about the program and are committed to helping it compete for top talent nationwide, both in recruiting and retention." - Joseph Rinaldi '81

"In order to accomplish the mission of assisting our Hofstra Men's Lacrosse student-athletes, one only has to look at the dramatic rise in the cost of education since the late 1970s. A four-year Hofstra education with room and board in 1977 cost approximately 25,000. In 2026, the cost has risen to over 360000 - this is a 14-time multiple or a 1340% increase! In order to attract, develop and sustain top-notch players and continue our long winning tradition of Hofstra lacrosse, I feel strongly about this initiative to help the Pride complete the mission!" - Colonel E. David Woycik, Jr. (Ret.) '77 B.A., '79 J.D.

The initiative is designed to strengthen the overall student-athlete experience, supporting recruiting efforts and long-term development while reinforcing the program's foundation and future direction.

Additional information on the Hofstra Men's Lacrosse Excellence Fund and opportunities to support the initiative will be announced at a later date.
