2/5/2026 12:30:00 PM

Hempstead, NY - Hofstra University Athletics announced today that the jersey of Alyssa Parrella will be retired, recognizing a player whose impact reshaped the trajectory of Hofstra women's lacrosse. Parrella's No. 7 will become the 32nd jersey retired in Hofstra Athletics history and the second women's lacrosse student-athlete to receive the honor.

Parrella joins Stephanie Clarke, whose jersey #30 was retired, as the two women's lacrosse student-athletes to receive the honor.

"Alyssa Parrella's jersey retirement is a recognition of an exceptional career," said Hofstra Vice President and Director of Athletics Rick Cole Jr. "Her dedication, preparation, and sustained excellence set her apart, and the standard she established through her performance speaks for itself. Alyssa's accomplishments represent the very best of Hofstra Athletics, and this honor reflects the legacy she earned through her commitment and competitive drive."

"Alyssa is one of those players who completely changes what a program believes is possible," said Hofstra Head Women's Lacrosse Coach Shannon Smith. "Her work ethic, confidence, and drive pushed everyone around her to be better every single day. She competed with purpose, embraced leadership, and left an imprint on this program that will be felt for years. Having her jersey retired is an incredible honor and a reflection of the lasting legacy she built at Hofstra."

Parrella competed for the Pride from 2017 to 2021, establishing herself as one of the most dynamic and influential players the program has ever seen. Her career was defined not only by elite production, but by a relentless competitive edge and an ability to elevate the players around her.

A dominant offensive presence throughout her time at Hofstra, Parrella closed her career as the program's all-time leader in goals and points, finishing with 261 goals and 355 points. Her 2019 season stands as one of the finest in school history, as she set single-season program records with 85 goals and 105 points, performances that helped redefine the standard for offensive excellence within the program.

Parrella's accolades reflect her impact on the national stage. She earned CAA Player of the Year honors in 2019, was named the CAA Rookie of the Year in 2017, and collected multiple All-America recognitions from IWLCA, Inside Lacrosse, and USA Lacrosse Magazine. At the time of her graduation, she ranked among the most prolific scorers in CAA history, solidifying her place as one of the league's elite players of her era.

While her scoring ability drew national attention, Parrella's influence extended across every facet of the game. She was a consistent presence in the draw circle, finishing her career with 196 draw controls, and was a dependable leader during critical moments. Her intensity, preparation, and competitive mindset became hallmarks of Hofstra women's lacrosse during her tenure.
Parrella's legacy is woven into the fabric of the program's modern identity. She helped propel Hofstra women's lacrosse forward, set new benchmarks for performance, and inspired a generation of Pride student-athletes who followed.

The retirement of Parrella's No. 7 jersey ensures that her contributions, leadership, and lasting influence on Hofstra women's lacrosse will be permanently recognized.

Parrella's jersey retirement ceremony will take place on Saturday, April 11 when Hofstra takes on Monmouth. More details about the ceremony will be announced.
