Hofstra Hosts No. 11 Rutgers Wednesday To Close Home Slate, Match To Air On MSG Network

Hempstead, NY The Hofstra University wrestling team closes out its home schedule Wednesday night by hosting No. 11 Rutgers at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. The match starts at 6 p.m. and will air on MSG Network, FloWrestling, and the Hofstra Pride YouTube Channel. Tickets are available at the Hofstra Athletics Box Office in the Mack Sports Complex or by visiting HofstraTickets.com.

Hofstra is 3-14 on the season and is coming off a pair of losses on Sunday, falling to Harvard (25-9) and Brown (22-17). Gauge Shipp and Chase Liardi won both of their matches, with each picking up a ranked victory. Shipp defeated No. 32 Coleman Nogle of Harvard at 133 pounds, while Liardi downed No. 32 Khimari Manns of Brown at 141 pounds. 

Rutgers is 13-5 and is currently on a five-match winning streak after downing Princeton, 28-9, Monday night. The Scarlet Knights won seven of 10 weights against the Tigers, highlighted by a top-10 victory from No. 29 Andrew Clark (149) over No. 10 Eligh Rivera and a ranked decision from No. 19 Andrew Barbosa (165) over No. 17 Ty Whalen.

Rutgers leads the all-time series with Hofstra, 16-9-1 and has won the past five meetings. The last meeting was a 35-6 Rutgers win on Nov. 27, 2021 at the Prudential Center. Clark and Shawver both wrestled in the dual for Rutgers. Shawver won an 8-1 decision against Hofstra's Jacob Moon at 125, while Ricky Stamm defeated Clark, 4-3, at 165 pounds. Matt Rogers and Eric Shindel were both freshmen on the Pride in 2021-22 but did not compete in the dual. Current Volunteer Assistant Coach Trainee Zachary Knighton-Ward wrestled and won his match at 285 pounds. 

Hofstra will close out the regular season Sunday at the Patriot Last Chance Open at George Mason.
