Hempstead, NY - Hofstra freshman Geovanna Gonçalves Rocha was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced by the conference office this afternoon.
The award is the second of the season for Gonçalves Rocha, who also earned the defensive award on August 31.
Gonçalves Rocha was incredible for Hofstra in their two victories over Campbell. The victories extended Hofstra's win streak to seven consecutive matches and moved the Pride to 6-0 in CAA play. Hofstra is now 11-3 overall.
Gonçalves Rocha had an astounding 17 blocks and 10 kills over the two matches to help the Pride.
On Friday, she had eight blocks and seven kills. She hit at a .600 clip in the match as she committed only one attack error.
Gonçalves Rocha would follow that up with a nine-block performance on Saturday and also added a trio of kills.
She posted a match-high in blocks in both matches. The eight blocks on Friday are tied for the most by an individual in the CAA this season in a three-set match, and the nine blocks on Saturday are tied for the most by an individual in the CAA this season in a four-set match.
