Wilmington, NC - Coming off one of the most dramatic finishes in recent program memory, the Hofstra University volleyball team settled for a season split with UNC Wilmington, following a 3-1 (14-25, 19-25, 25-18, 14-25) loss Saturday afternoon at Hanover Hall.
Sandwiched by a pair of lopsided victories in Sets 1 & 4, the Seahawks (9-9, 4-2 CAA) ended a years-long winless drought against the Pride (12-4, 7-1 CAA), with the bleeding stopping at twelve consecutive losses since 2018.
UNCW spent much of the day hitting well over .400, led by Sam Vanda's 15 kills and Elaina Murphy's 14 kills, respectively.
Coming off her career-best performance less than 24 hours earlier,
Constanza Perez Sain was limited to nine kills on a .125 attack percentage.
Julia Amorim settled for just two kills on 10 total attempts (.200) across the four sets.
For a short time, the match still had the makings of another possible come-from-behind win for the Pride.
Down two sets out of the gate, a 4-1 advantage for the visitors had Hofstra in front for the first time since scoring the initial point of the match. The Pride used a 9-4 run to coast to a 17-10 lead and never looked back, forcing a fourth set.
Beatriz Braga bounced back and led her team with 15 kills in the contest, including five in the third set.
Unfortunately, in the fourth, the number of errors (eleven) for the Pride far exceeded their total kills (six), despite opening up a 3-1 lead to start the set.
The loss not only ends Hofstra's eight-match winning streak, but also snaps a stretch of nine straight CAA regular-season road victories dating back to last September (L, 2-3, at Charleston, Sept. 27, 2025).
Charleston now sits alone atop the current CAA standings at 8-0, with Hofstra a game back at 7-1. Both teams will not meet in the regular season in 2026.
Head Coach
Emily Mansur and the Pride will return home for a weekend series (Oct. 16-17) against Northeastern University at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center, beginning on Friday at 6 p.m. on MSGSN and FloCollege.
