Pride Welcome Northeastern as Race for CAA's Top Seed Heats Up

10/14/2026 10:14:00 AM

Hempstead, NY - At the midway point of the conference season, the Hofstra University volleyball team hosts Northeastern University this weekend at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center.

With eight league matches down and eight to go, the Pride are in a tight race with College of Charleston for the top seed in the CAA Tournament. Hofstra (7-1 CAA) sits one match behind the Cougars (8-0 CAA), the only unbeaten team in conference play.

This weekend's series with Northeastern is the Pride's penultimate home series of 2026. Hofstra won't return to the PEC until Nov. 13-14, when it closes the regular-season home slate against North Carolina A&T.

The teams meet Friday, Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. on MSGSN and Saturday, Oct. 17 at 3 p.m. on FloCollege.

Hofstra holds a 53-18 all-time advantage over Northeastern and has won eight of the last nine meetings, including each of the last four. The Pride have been just as tough on the Huskies at home, winning the last four matchups at the PEC. Northeastern's last win in Hempstead came in 2021.

Beatriz Braga was a big reason for the Pride's success in Boston last season, posting a double-double in both four-set victories, including 20 kills and 12 digs in the series opener. The senior enters the weekend with 914 career kills, 86 shy of becoming the 19th player in program history to reach 1,000. She would be the second Pride player in as many years to hit the mark, following Izadora Stedile, who finished her career with 1,221 kills from 2022-25.

Braga isn't the only member of the Pride closing in on a career milestone. Nil Kayaalp enters the weekend with 942 career digs, 58 away from becoming the 22nd player in program history to reach 1,000.

Northeastern enters the weekend at 4-12 overall and 2-6 in CAA play, having dropped each of its last four matches. The Huskies are still searching for their first road win of 2026, as their last came in a three-set sweep at Elon in October 2025.

Middle blocker Beatrice Gennari leads the way for Northeastern, ranking second in the CAA with a .437 hitting percentage and among the conference's top five with 66 blocks. Emma Rowell is also among the CAA's top five with 207 kills.
