Hempstead, NY – Hofstra softball ace
Emma Falen was named the Coastal Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 5, in the final week of weekly awards by the conference.
This is the second CAA Pitcher of the Week honor for Falen, who was previously named the Pitcher of the Week on March 24 after her exceptional week against UMBC and Delaware.
Falen pitched in two games against Monmouth, and she went 2-0 with 17 strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA, and she allowed only three hits to Monmouth batters and an opposing batting average of just .077. In the series opener on Thursday, Falen pitched a masterpiece with a career-high 15 strikeouts and no hits allowed in the Pride's 4-0 win over the Hawks. It was the first no-hitter of Falen's career, and it was the first no-hitter thrown by a Hofstra pitcher since Sarah Cornell achieved the feat against Elon on April 23, 2017. Her 15 punchouts were one shy of tying the single-game CAA record of 16 set by James Madison's Odicci Alexander against Delaware on May 12, 2021. Falen followed this memorable performance with a three-hitter and two strikeout 3-0 win over the Hawks to clinch the series sweep.
Falen and the Pride will take on Charleston on the opening day of the 2025 CAA Championship on Wednesday, May 7, at 2:30 p.m.
