Hofstra Opens Virginia Road Swing at Hampton

Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra women's basketball team kicks off a two-game stretch in the state of Virginia as the 2024-25 regular season winds down. The Pride begins its time in the Commonwealth with a clash against Hampton on Friday, February 28.
 
Tip-off against the Pirates from the Hampton Convocation Center is set for 7 p.m.

The Pride snapped a seven-game losing skid this past Sunday with a thrilling 57-54 win over visiting Monmouth, upping the Pride to 10-15 overall and 5-9 against Coastal Athletic Association competition. With the game tied at 54-54 in the dying seconds of the fourth quarter, Emma Von Essen hit a corner three to put the Pride ahead of Monmouth with 2.3 seconds left. Hofstra's defense held on in the last Hawks possession to seal the CAA win. Von Essen finished with 13 points in the Hofstra win, while Zyheima Swint recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds while passing Candice Bellocchio for the most games played in Hofstra women's basketball history with 134.
 
Picked 14th in the CAA Women's Basketball Preseason Poll, Hampton fell to 6-19 overall and 2-12 in the CAA after a 7-58 loss to Charleston on Tuesday. Jasha Clinton leads the Pirates in scoring with 14.3 points per game coming into Friday's showdown.
 
Hampton leads the all-time series against Hofstra at 3-2. The Pirates won both 2023-24 regular season contests, but it was the Pride who came out on top 71-55 in the first round of the 2024 CAA Championship.
