Hempstead, NY – Hofstra Head Women's Basketball Coach
Danielle Santos Atkinson announces today the addition of
Christian Mordi to her staff as an assistant coach for the 2026-27 season.
"I'm excited to welcome Christian to our coaching staff," said Santos Atkinson, entering her ninth season as the Pride's head coach. "He is a relentless recruiter whose passion, energy, and work ethic will make an immediate impact on our program. He is committed to building meaningful relationships and investing in the growth of our student-athletes on an off the court. Christian has an outstanding reputation for developing post-players, helping multiple student-athletes earn all-conference recognition through his teaching and player development. We're thrilled to have him join the Hofstra family, and we know he will be a tremendous asset as we continue building our program."
Mordi joins the Pride coaching staff after spending the past three seasons as an assistant coach at Iona. Iona won 42 games with Mordi on staff, including 20 games in 2025-26. His primary responsibility was coaching Iona's frontcourt players, including 1,000-point scorer Sierra DiAngelo, and the Gaels finished top three in the MAAC in points per game allowed this past season. Mordi coached All-MAAC Second Team and All-Defensive Team selection Isabellah Middleton, as well as second team pick Zoey Ward last season, and Iona finished with nine all-academic players on the roster.
Prior to joining Iona, Mordi was a part of the FDU women's basketball staff as director of player development in 2020-21 before being promoted to assistant coach prior to the 2021-22 season. The Knights won back-to-back NEC regular season championships 2021-22 and 2022-23 for the first time in program history with Mordi on staff as an assistant, and the team finished top 10 in the country in scoring defense and three-point percentage defense in 2022-23.
Mordi cut his teeth in coaching at Kean University as a special assistant, editing film for practice analysis and working with the forwards, including the 2010-11 National Player of the Year Jonathan Jones. Mordi then moved on to become the associate head coach at Christ the King High School from 2015-17, focusing on skill development, film breakdown and scouting. Before transitioning to the Division I level, Mordi coached 17U Elite and 16U EYBL teams for the NYC Exodus program. Mordi graduated from William Patterson University 2012, earning a bachelor's degree in communication and media studies.
"Hofstra is an inclusive, diverse, learning-centered scholarly community, and I am honored to now be apart of this family and this university," Mordi said. "I believe in what Coach Santos Atkinson is building, and I am ready to come in and serve and make an impact."
Mordi is the second assistant coach added to the staff this summer, after
Jenna Annecchiarico was named an assistant coach earlier this month. Mordi joins Annecchiarico,
Amber Reeves,
Maniya Custis, and
Keila Whittington on Santos Atkinson's staff for the 2026-27 season on the heels of the Pride's historic run to the championship game of the 2026 CAA Championship.
