Kancher, Hofstra Place Second At Adelphi Panther Invitational

Jericho, NY - Hank Kancher shot back-to-back rounds of 76 (+4) to finish in a second place tie, while Gavin Clarke placed seventh to lead Hofstra at the Adelphi Panther Invitational Thursday at the Meadow Brook Club. The Pride placed second at the seven-team event. 

Kancher, a freshman, posted the top finish of his young career and was just three shots off the lead. His two round 152 (+8) featured five birdies. Clarke shot a pair of 78's (+6) for a two-round score of 156 (+12). The junior also collected five birdies on the day. 

Joseph Wong tied for 21st in the 44-player field with a 163 (+19). Wong had rounds of 78 (+6) and 85 (+13). Eugene Kang tied for 32nd with a 170 (+26). Kang shot an 89 (+17) in round one before rebounding for an 81 (+9) in round two. Charlie Ferrise rounded out the Pride's team entry in 42nd-place at 177 (+33). Individual entrants Tyler Barbaro and Taishi Shigaki finished 43rd and 44th, respectively. Barbaro carded a 181 (+37) over two rounds, while Shigaki was at 182 (+38). 

Francis Lanuza of Adelphi was the individual medalist at 149 (+5). Lanuza opened with a 79 (+7) before rebounding with a 70 (-2) in round two. He was the only player to post an under par round on the day. 

Adelphi also won the team title at 609 (+33). The Pride was second at 638 (+62). Assumption (645, +69), Post (646, +70), and Jefferson (647, +71) finished third, fourth, and fifth, while Farmingdale State (653, +77) was sixth. Dominican (NY) placed seventh at 682 (+106). 

Hofstra will conclude the fall season Oct. 27-28 at Iona's Wykagyl Collegiate at the Wykagyl Country Club.
