Pride Takes On Scarlet Knights In Final Non-Conference Affair

| By:
Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra women's lacrosse team will step out of conference play this week as the Pride heads to New Jersey to face Rutgers on Wednesday.

The game is more than just Hofstra versus Rutgers, though, as the contest will feature sisters in net for both teams. The Cardello sisters, natives of Massapequa, New York, have both appeared in all 11 games for their respective teams this season. Hofstra's Luchianna has started all 11 games in net for the Pride and Rutgers' Sophia has started all 11 games in net for the Scarlet Knights.

Opening draw control from SHI Stadium is scheduled for 6 p.m.

The game will air on Big Ten Plus. Links to the broadcast and the live statistics can be found on this page and on the women's lacrosse schedule page at GoHofstra.com.

Hofstra picked up another CAA win on Saturday as the Pride went on the road and dominated Towson, 15-8, to improve to 7-4 overall and 4-0 in CAA play. It is the best CAA start since the 2015 squad was a perfect 6-0 in conference action. In the win over the Tigers, Melissa Sconone led the way with six points on four goals and two assists. Nikki Mennella (3 G, 2 A), Kerry Walser (4 G), and Taylor Mennella (2 G, 2 A) all contributed to a strong offensive effort. Luchianna Cardello made nine saves in net for the Pride.

Rutgers brings a 5-6 overall record into Wednesday's encounter. The Scarlet Knights most recently dropped a 22-11 decision at #3 Northwestern on Saturday. Cassidy Spilis had five goals for Rutgers in the contest and Ashley Moynahan added a pair of goals.

Wednesday will be the 36th all-time meeting between Hofstra and Rutgers but the first since the 2016 season. The Pride's last victory in the series was a 9-5 road win in 2015.
