Hofstra Plays Three At St. John's

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra University baseball team is back on the field Friday with a doubleheader at St. John's starting at 2 p.m. This is a change to the original schedule for the three game series, necessitated by weather conditions predicted for Sunday. The teams will play a single game Saturday at 2 p.m.

Hofstra enters the series with a 4-6 record after splitting four games at New Mexico last season. The Pride has put up some impressive offensive numbers and rank 26th in the nation in batting with a .322 average and 27th in stolen bases with 27. Dylan Palmer has been a catalyst at the top of the lineup, batting .548 with 15 runs scored and eight stolen bases in his first 10 games. The sophomore ranks fourth in the nation with a .548 batting average, ninth with a .623 on-base percentage, 11th with 23 hits, and 24th with eight steals. Alex McCoy is batting .419 with 14 RBIs, while Santino Rosso is hitting .375 with four home runs, 15 RBIs, and 15 runs scored. 

St. John's is 5-4 on the season and is coming off a 14-1 victory over Iona this past Tuesday. Jimmy Keenan had six RBIs and was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle. Chad Falcom leads the Red Storm with a .400 average, while Keenan is at .375 with 11 RBIs. 

Pitching matchups for the series are as follows:
Game 1: Michael O'Hanlon vs. Xavier Kolhosser
Game 2: Steven Kaenzig vs. Evan Chaffee
Game 3: Carlos Martinez vs. Mario Pesca

St. John's leads the all-time series with Hofstra, 65-15. The teams split last season with the Red Storm winning at home, 11-6, on March 8 and Hofstra taking a 17-5 victory at home on April 11.

Following the series, Hofstra returns home to host FDU Tuesday in the 2024 home opener at 3 p.m. The Pride also added three home games next weekend against Manhattan, as what were scheduled away games were moved to Hofstra. The teams will play Friday at 3 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m.
