Hofstra Takes on William & Mary in CAA Second Round

Hempstead, NY – After a first round win over #12 seed Hampton on Wednesday, the 13-seeded Hofstra women's basketball team will next face five-seed William & Mary in the second round of the 2024 CAA Women's Basketball Championship on Thursday from Entertainment & Sports Arena in Washington, DC. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. against the Tribe.
 
Thursday's contest will air on FloHoops, and an audio-only broadcast will be available through the HAWC on WRHU. These links, as well as a link to the live statistics, are available on this page and on the women's basketball schedule page on GoHofstra.com.
 
The Pride shot 60.7% from the floor and outscored Hampton 50-32 in the second half of a 71-55 win over the Lady Pirates. Alarice Gooden led four Hofstra players finishing in double figures with a career-best 19 points, while Brooke Anya posted 14 points, Emma Von Essen scored 12, and Zyheima Swint scored 10 points and pulled down 13 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season.
 
The five-seed in the 14-team tournament, William & Mary finished the regular season 15-13 and 12-6 in league play. The Tribe saw two named to CAA postseason teams; Nylah Young was named First Team All-CAA, and Cassidy Geddes earned a spot on the CAA All-Rookie Team. Young finished with a team-leading 15.9 points per game and 5.3 rebounds per game, and Geddes posted 9.6 points per game and team-best 48 steals.
 
Thursday will be the 54th all-time meeting between the Pride and the Tribe. Hofstra is 30-23-1 all-time against William & Mary, but the Tribe have won the last five meetings against the Pride, including both games this season.
