Hofstra Closes Regular Season This Weekend

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra University wrestling team will compete in its final two events of the regular season this weekend with an EIWA dual match at Drexel on Saturday and at the National Collegiate Open Championship on Sunday. 

The Pride (8-5, 2-1 EIWA) heads to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for a 4 p.m. dual against the Dragons (7-9, 4-4 EIWA). The match will be streamed live on FloWrestling with live scoring available on TrackWrestling. Links for both can be found above or on the wrestling schedule page on GoHofstra.com. 

Hofstra is coming off a two-match split Saturday in California. The Pride defeated CSU Bakersfield, 29-9, in their first match before falling to host California Baptist, 29-10, to close the evening. Dylan Ryder, Ross McFarland, and Nikolas Miller were each 2-0. Ryder was unscored upon in a tech fall victory (16-0) and a decision (4-0). McFarland outscored his opponents, 25-3, with an 18-2 tech fall and a 7-1 decision. Miller had two bonus point victories with a win by fall and a major decision. Keaton Kluever (12-3) remains the only Pride wrestler ranked by InterMat, as he is No. 21 at 285 pounds.

Drexel, which wrestles at Maryland Friday night, is coming off a 22-16 loss at Franklin and Marshall this past Saturday. Cody Walsh owns a 21-9 record and is ranked 28th at 165 pounds.  

Hofstra and Drexel have met 39 times with the Dragons holding a 20-19 advantage in the series. Drexel won last season at Hofstra, 19-16. 

Sunday's National Collegiate Open will feature four Hofstra wrestlers - Dylan Ryder, Ryan Arbeit, Eric Shindel, and Greyson Harris competing. The event takes place in Smyrna, Delaware, and begins at 10 a.m. Brackets will be available at the National Collegiate Open website. Following Sunday's competition, Hofstra will be off until the EIWA Championships begin Friday, March 8 at Bucknell.
