Louisville, KY – Three members of the Hofstra softball team –
Chelsea Manto,
Meghan Giordano, and
Becca Vaillancourt – have been honored by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) as All-Northeast Region selections. Manto was named to the All-Northeast Region Second Team, while Giordano and Vaillancourt collected All-Northeast Region Third Team honors. The All-Region teams were voted on by NFCA coaches from each respective region, and those named All-Region are now eligible for the 2023 NFCA All-America teams.
Named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association First Team in 2023, Manto has been named All-Northeast Region for the third straight season, being named to the first team in 2022 and third team in 2021. A starter in centerfield in all 54 games, Manto possesses a .304 batting average with 52 hits, including two doubles, two triples, and an inside-the-park home run against Morgan State on February 19. Manto's speed has been showcased all season long, leading the CAA and ranking 30th in the country with 27 stolen bases out of 29 attempts to sit third for the most swipes in a season at Hofstra.
Giordano collects All-Northeast Region honors for the second consecutive season and the third time in her, after earning a spot third team in 2019 and 2022. The CAA Championship Most Outstanding Performer and an All-CAA Second Team pick, Giordano has provided the power to the Hofstra offense with a CAA-best 15 home runs and 48 RBIs in 52 starts at shortstop. Giordano also leads the team with a .358 batting average, a .717 slugging percentage, an on-base percentage of .459, while she has recorded 56 hits, 11 doubles, and one triple, and is tied for second in the conference with 32 walks drawn. Giordano is in the midst of an eight-game hitting streak and has reached base safely in 21 consecutive games.
This marks the second time in Vaillancourt's career that she picks up All-Region honors, after being named to the third team in 2022 as a member of UMass Lowell. Vaillancourt has started every game at catcher in her first season with the Pride, Vaillancourt has hit at a .274 clip with 43 hits, seven doubles, and 18 RBIs while scoring 15 runs and driving in multiple RBIs in nine games. Behind the plate, Vaillancourt has thrown out 16 base runners to rank 10th in Division I.
The Pride won the 2023 CAA Championship in walk-off fashion over Towson, earning them the CAA's automatic qualifying bid. Hofstra was slotted into the Norman Regional, and they will open against No. 1 overall seed Oklahoma on Friday at 5 p.m. Eastern.
The 2023 NFCA Division I All-America teams, voted on by the NFCA Division I All-American Committee, will be announced on Wednesday, May 31.
