Longosiwa, McDonnell Qualify for NCAA Track & Field East First Round

| By:
Hempstead, NY – For the first time in program history, two Hofstra track & field runners will be competing at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field East First Round, as Abraham Longosiwa and Jordyn McDonnell will both represent the Pride in Jacksonville, Florida for the 2023 East First Round, hosted at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida on May 24-27.

Longosiwa will be running in the 10,000m at 9:10 p.m. on Wednesday, while McDonnell will compete in the 3000m Steeplechase at 5:40 p.m. on Saturday. Every event of the East First Round can be viewed live on ESPN+, and there will be live results of every event courtesy of Flash Results. These links can be found on this page and the men's and women's cross country/track schedule pages on GoHofstra.com.

Longosiwa becomes the first freshman Hofstra runner to qualify for a national championship event. A freshman from Eldoret, Kenya, Longosiwa qualified for the East First Round with a time of 29:24.71 in a 10th-place finish at the 2023 Penn Relays. Longosiwa, who was named the CAA Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Year, set a new school record with his time at the Penn Relays.

The Hofstra record-holder of nearly every distance event, McDonnell punched her ticket to Jacksonville with a school-record time of 10:28.21 at the 2023 CAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, earning All-CAA honors for finishing third. McDonnell competed in the 3000m Steeplechase at three prestigious events this year; the Stanford Invitational, the Penn Relays, and the CAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. McDonnell makes history for Hofstra in becoming the first woman to qualify for an NCAA championship event.

The qualifiers from the East First Round and West First Round – held in Sacramento, California – will head to Austin, Texas for the 2023 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships on June 7-10.
