Longosiwa Takes Fifth in 10,000m at Penn Relays

| By:
Philadelphia, PA – Abraham Longosiwa and Paul Markovina both represented the Pride in the long-distance running events at the 2023 edition of the prestigious Penn Relays from Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Running in the 10,000m, Longosiwa scored a fifth-place finish against some of the top runners in the East Coast. The freshman runners clocked in with a time of 29:24.71, slotting him 14.58 seconds ahead of UMass Lowell runner John Riley in sixth and just 1.87 seconds behind fourth-place finisher Shane Coffey from Providence. Longosiwa's mark in the event is a new personal-best time, and he currently ranks second in the Colonial Athletic Association among runners in the 10,000m event.

Markovina also ran for the Pride at the Penn Relays, and the senior finished 53rd in the 5,000m with a time of 14:37.17. Markovina's time – his fastest time of the season and just shy of a new personal-best time – put him .32 seconds ahead of Lehigh's Tyler French and .49 seconds behind Ryan Buzby of Buffalo.

Longosiwa, Markovina, and the rest of the Hofstra men's outdoor track team will now begin preparations for the 2023 CAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on May 5-6 in Williamsburg, Virginia.
