Hempstead, NY – After the Hofstra softball team earned its first Colonial Athletic Association wins of the season in a three-game sweep of Stony Brook,
Haley Venturini and
Alanna Morse have been honored by the conference office by being named the CAA Co-Pitcher of the Week and the CAA Rookie of the Week.
These are the first CAA weekly awards of the season for Venturini and Morse.
Venturini was on fire in her two appearances against Stony Brook this past weekend, going 2-0 for the Pride. The sophomore allowed an ERA of 1.07 in 13 innings pitched, striking out 17 opposing batters and allowing just two runs. In her first appearance on Saturday, Venturini struck out 10 batters – just two shy of tying her career-high – and allowed one run on two hits and two walks in six innings of work in a 9-1 win over Stony Brook in the second game of a doubleheader. In her second start on Sunday, Venturini posted seven strikeouts against one run on five hits and one walk in a complete game, 4-1 win.
Morse compiled a team-best .400 batting average in the three-game series with a 4-10 performance in the box with five RBIs and one run scored, driving in at least one run in all three games for the Pride against Stony Brook. Morse went 1-3 with a two-run double in the series opener and finale, and she posted a 2-4 day in Saturday's second game with one RBI and a run scored.
Venturini, Morse, and the Pride return to action with a busy week away from home before hosting a CAA series. Hofstra faces Virginia in a doubleheader in Charlottesville, Virginia on Tuesday (Mar. 21) at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., before heaving to Baltimore, Maryland to face UMBC on Thursday (Mar. 23) at 1 p.m. The Pride returns to Bill Edwards Stadium for a weekend series against Monmouth in a doubleheader on Saturday (Mar. 25) at noon and 2:30 p.m., before wrapping up on Sunday (Mar. 26) at noon.
