Hofstra Makes Maiden Voyage To UBS Arena To Battle St. John’s On Saturday

| By:
Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra men's basketball team will make the short trek to UBS Arena on Saturday when the Pride takes on local rival St. John's. The game at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York marks the program's first in the building, which opened in 2021. UBS Arena is just over 10 miles from Hofstra's campus and Hofstra and St. John's are separated by 18.2 miles (arena to arena).

Tip-off for the nationally-televised contest will be 12 p.m.

The game will air nationally on FS1 and WRHU will have an audio-only broadcast available on the HAWC. Links to both, as well as the live statistics can be found on this page and on the men's basketball schedule page at GoHofstra.com.

Hofstra is 7-5 heading into the final game of a difficult non-conference slate this season. The Pride has been off since December 21 when it dropped a road contest at UNLV. Darlinstone Dubar led Hofstra with 17 points in that contest, while Tyler Thomas added 13. Thomas is one of the nation's top scorers, averaging 22.1 points per outing. Dubar is second on the team in scoring at 17.8 points per game and leads the squad with 6.4 rebounds per contest. Jaquan Carlos is among the nation's leaders in assists and dishes out 7.0 per game.

St. John's is 8-4 overall this year and most recently dropped a narrow 69-65 decision at #5 Connecticut last Saturday. Joel Soriano led the Red Storm with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Daniss Jenkins added 13 points and four assists.

Saturday marks the 28th all-time meeting between the Pride and the Red Storm. St. John's leads the series, 22-5, but Hofstra has owned the series of late. The Pride has won four of the last five meetings, but the teams have not met since a St. John's victory on December 20, 2009. Hofstra first-ever win in the series was on December 16, 2000, when the Pride earned an 86-80 win in a game played at the Nassau Coliseum. The first meeting between the teams was on February 8, 1940. The most recent win for Hofstra was on December 29, 2006, a 63-51 victory at Madison Square Garden. The Pride's other wins have come on November 29, 2005 (at SJU), December 11, 2004 (at HU), and December 2, 2003 (at SJU).
